I began writing songs when I was 7 years old, but I started getting more consistent about writing the summer before my freshman year of high school. That same summer is when I started teaching myself guitar, and I finally felt like I was getting somewhere. How did the journey begin? “There was never a day that I decided I wanted to do music, I just always have. Every book, TV show, video game, clothing item, etc that I liked as a child was always music related. I was a big fan of music class at school and I loved nap time because the teachers would play classical music while the other kids slept. I started playing piano, guitar, and ukulele after my first concert which morphed into writing songs immediately. By middle school I was playing at coffee shops and I had a YouTube channel where I posted my originals. My friend group at the time was so supportive and to this day come to shows and talk about my first set of songs I shared with them. I credit them a lot with building up my confidence as a performer. High school was where I fell in love with recording. I volunteered at the local elementary school helping out the music teacher (shoutout Mr. Adams) and he gave me access to his studio set up in his office at the school. That led me to a college career in sound recording technology, not to mention freedom to put my songs out there in a professional way. I kept learning new instruments, went to so many concerts, took theory classes, put out my first couple of songs, and eventually made the jump to Nashville to be a musician full time. 4 years later, I’m still here with a few award nominations, a couple records, and hundreds of shows on the calendar. How did the journey begin? “I grew up in a musical family, in 2010 we had a family band. I was in choir, musical theatre and piano lessons since the early days and I picked up guitar when I was 12. For the new artists, don't focus on spending thousands before you have an audience for that product. Start small, start affordable, make connections, build a fanbase, and work on cultivating the fanbase over a long period of time. How did the journey begin? “There I was. In my grandparent's hand-me-down Honda Pilot. The ripe age of 16. Driver's license in hand. The world on my shoulders. Lil Wayne playing from the cassette tape auxiliary cord I used for so many years. Out of pure curiosity I decided to freestyle over one of his tracks, and much to my surprise...I did a decent job! I was already hooked on rap music, but from then on I delved into actually practicing the craft. Freestyling with friends in the cafeteria, at sporting events, house parties, with the varsity basketball team, I got better and better. I finally saved up enough to by a cheap USB microphone. I would plug that bad boy into my sister's incredibly old MacBook when she wasn't home and record in GarageBand over some of the worst beats you ever heard in your life. But I loved it. And it set me on the path to where today I am now directing and recording full swing bands, writing melodies and lyrics for crazy talented singers, and still freestyling at venues all across Nashville. How did the journey begin? “I've been performing since I was young; the stage has been my friend since elementary dance classes, high school and college theatre, and summers spent at Cue52, a camp for singers, performers, and visual artists. At fourteen I started playing three-hour acoustic shifts at restaurants, that became my occupation for over nine years. My senior year of college I joined a band for the first time and it changed my life, HighSpeed Dreams started traveling around North Georgia for shows, bookings, and events. How did the journey begin? “I was raised in the suburbs of NYC and that’s where I fell in love with music, creativity, and songwriting. I grew up in an extremely musical family – my dad is a music engineer so he had a studio in NYC and I can recall singing there from as young as four years old. When I was eight, an agent heard me singing at a holiday party and asked if I would be interested in singing in jingles. So, I began working as a jingle-singer at eight years old and recorded familiar jingles like the “Hess Truck” Commercial, GE spots, and radio tags for Z-100, among others. I also was passionate for musical theater and all of these childhood experiences served as a huge inspiration for me. When I was about 14, I discovered songwriting and when I was about 18, I started to really understand what an independent artist was.
