An Interview With Tiffany Johnson

Tells us about the song you are performing  for the Nashville Pop Artist Spotlight. What is it about?

“Medicine is a song I wrote about the person who never fails to make you feel better. It's about going through a hard time and feeling like one person is able to fix all of your problems.”

What first got you into music? How did the journey begin?

“I've always loved to sing and to make up little songs. Growing up my dad was in a band so that helped me to have opportunities to perform on stage and to learn to play guitar. I fell in love with experiencing things and being able to put those emotions into song.”

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

“My music combines singer/songwriter style lyricism with pop and alternative production influences. I make music for old souls who still have teenage angst.”

What does your music represent?

“It's an express of myself that is made to connect people and make them feel seen.”

What is your creative process like?

“My creative process is different every time and that's what keeps music and songwriting so exciting for me! I often write poems/lyrics first, especially when it comes to verse writing but I love how there is no specific formula to songwriting.”

If you were to open for any 3 artists, who would they be?

“Maggie Rogers, Sabrina Carpenter, Ashe.”

What is the best advice you’ve been given so far in the music industry?

“To just keep showing up and doing your best. Persistence is key!”

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

“Probably journalism, creative direction or some sort of music business.”

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

“The most rewarding part of being a creative is being able to connect with people. I love it when the thing I'm afraid to say it the thing that ends up connecting me to so many people. Music says what people can't and I love that.”

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives such as yourself?

“The best thing you can do for creatives is to show up to your local art scenes, shows, festivals etc. Another great way to support creatives is to support them on social media. It's as simple as liking, commenting or reposting their videos!”
