An Interview With Drew Schueler
Tells us about the song you are performing for the Nashville Pop Artist Spotlight. What is it about?
“This song is about a girl I met in high school. We dated through college, and ended up getting married and just bought our first house together. I wrote this for her a week after closing on our home. I submitted this song to the American Song Contest and it ended up winning the Grand Prize. This song changed my life because a house changed my life because a girl changed my life.”
What first got you into music? How did the journey begin?
“My dad is in an 80s cover band in Cincinnati and my mom worked at a Pop radio station. Since I was a kid I knew this is the path I wanted to live, and I haven't looked back since.”
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
“Pop, singer songwriter, alternative, folk”
What does your music represent?
“Finding beauty in the little moments of life. Living in the moment. Trying to become a better person.”
What is your creative process like?
“I am an artist, producer, and a songwriter so each song is truly different. I can adapt to different situations and feel where I am best suited to help bring the song to life.”
If you were to open for any 3 artists, who would they be?
“Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi, Dermot Kennedy”
What is the best advice you’ve been given so far in the music industry?
“Most of your fears will never end up washing to shore anyways, so why dwell on hypotheticals?.”
What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
“There's nothing else I would do”
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
“Creating. There is no greater joy than making a piece of art out of absolutely nothing.”
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives such as yourself?
“Listen to music without preconceived bias. Do you actually like the song, or just the artist? Don't fall into groupthink mentality.”
