An Interview With Jennah Wave

Tells us about the song you are performing  for the Nashville Pop Artist Spotlight. What is it about?

“LVRS4SURE is an upbeat, playful and flirty track with an R&B/Funk flare. It's about caring less, kissing more and being uninhibited with your LVR. It's so much more fun that way!”

What first got you into music? How did the journey begin?

“I grew up singing in choirs and musical theater, but really began to gravitate towards a love for Pop/R&B when I was 13. After that, I realized I didn't want to play roles or sing with others anymore, I wanted to sing for myself. I started writing my own songs in journals, posting covers on Youtube, and singing little shows at the local cafe. However, over time I lost touch with that spark of confidence I had at 13. I stopped singing out, I made my youtube covers private. It began to feel more like an unattainable dream, so I stopped trying all together. That part of me laid dormant until 2021. I made the conscious decision to get out of my own way and start sharing my voice and my music again. I also made those youtube videos public and they are currently on my channel 😉”

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

“I like to try to bridge my fav musical eras with a unique and contemporary take on those familiar influences. Y2K music raised me like the rest of us, my parents played 80's in our home, and my Brother uploaded Indie rock to my Ipod. Those influences coupled with my own gravitational pull to more soulful, emotional sounds, have land me in R&B/Neo-soul genre most days!”

What does your music represent?

“It represents an emotionally charged journey, which led me to reclaiming my passion. It represents a genre-blending fusion with modern elements. It represents my ocean floor feelings, an eb and flow of boldness, romance, resilience, and fun, all to genuinely connect with listeners.”

What is your creative process like?

“I love free-styling over a beat that really speaks to me first, then I go back, pick out the melodies I love and play with lyrics from there.”

If you were to open for any 3 artists, who would they be?

“Victoria Monét, Amber Mark, Frank Ocean (Frank Ocean, Jennah Wave -- it would just work on a poster ya know? 🌊)”

What is the best advice you’ve been given so far in the music industry?

“If you don't know anything about the Business side of the Industry, learn.”

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

“I feel like I've already done it all because I explored every other interest I had besides a music career before 2021. 😅 To this day, I am very passionate about Holistic living and Wellness, so I'd probably pursue being a Wellness Coach, again. 😉”

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

“Connection. Connection with myself. Connection with others. Every baby risk I've taken has led me to more confidence, more opportunities, more collaborators, more friends, more listeners, more inspirations, more connection.”

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives such as yourself?

“Understanding that actions like, pre-saving a song, playlist adds, artist profile follows, streaming, buying merch -- these help the overall metric we're "judged" by as the value we're providing others. So, it's really important to do those things if you love an artists work!”
