An Interview With Bryan Wood

Tells us about the song you are performing  for the Nashville Pop Artist Spotlight. What is it about?

“Helping a someone help themselves”

What first got you into music? How did the journey begin?

“Someone brought our an acoustic guitar on a camping trip and I was enamored by how it brought everyone together. Also in 6th grade I had a cool band teacher who let a few classmates and I play some rock n roll at our spring concert. That's when the bug really bit me.”

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

“Guitar and melodically driven”

What does your music represent?

“I try to aim up with my music. There can be a sort of philosophical message in my songs that I hope inspires the listener towards positive growth.”

What is your creative process like?

“9/10 times its starts by picking up a guitar and messing around until what I'm playing stirs up some emotion. Then I try to hum a melody with random words and vowels that match the feeling. Some key words and phrases usually come out and its kind of like putting together a puzzle after that.”

If you were to open for any 3 artists, who would they be?

“Kings of Leon, Chris Stapleton, The Wrecks

What is the best advice you’ve been given so far in the music industry?

“There's no rules only guideline and if it sounds good; it is good”

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

“I'd be teaching high schoolers how to record at the same vocational school I went to in high school”

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

“It's nice when someone tells you how much something you've created has impacted them but to be honest, the rewarding part for me is the break through point where how to finish the thing finally comes to you. That 'ah-ha' moment is the fuel that keeps me going.”

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives such as yourself?

“Consciously practice extending our attention spans and rebounding dopamine. Good strong love doesn't happen in one night, it's built through peaks and valleys. Before you scroll from that independent artist think to yourself, "what if this just a valley before a very big peak".”
