An Interview With Ben Schuller
Tells us about the song you are performing for the Nashville Pop Artist Spotlight. What is it about?
“A couple of songs I like to play at acoustic shows that have good stories. One of them being the first song I wrote in Nashville "Need This Feeling" that got adopted by a major video game franchice fanbase and took off! Opening a lot of doors for me early on”
What first got you into music? How did the journey begin?
“The Backstreet Boys Millennium album. Played that damn casette in the car on the way to school when I was a kid and learned every word. Knew I wanted to be a singer after that”
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
“A lot of introspection. I do concept albums that document parts of my life but for the last 5-6 years have mostly been about the relationship between the artist and social media. Navigating being a creative in a world controlled by "influencing"”
What does your music represent?
“I represents an honest look at yourself. A lot of the dark moments and how to deal with that”
What is your creative process like?
“All of my music comes with a visual in mind, and I'm constantly creating songs/albums that can fit into the visual album construct.”
If you were to open for any 3 artists, who would they be?
“Ryan Tedder, Aaryan Shah, The Neighbourhood”
What is the best advice you’ve been given so far in the music industry?
“Just do it! Make stuff, put it out and learn from it”
What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
“Something in sports, maybe journalism”
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
“Meeting fans from all over the world who have been influenced by my work”
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives such as yourself?
“That is a damn good question... Maybe make it less about clickbait viral videos”
