Making music shouldn’t be constrained to the “studio experience”. In fact, a lot of modern music is produced out of mobile studios or a home studio setup. As an artist and creator, I am constantly on-the-go and the majority of my creativity thrives on that. I get new ideas for music, lyrics, videos, photos from the experiences around me, but producing music while traveling can be a bit of a hassle when you don’t have a solid Music Production Travel Kit.

Alright, let’s jump in the specifics of what and why I included all these tools in my Music Production Travel Kit for 2020.
Digital Audio Workstation (DAW): Logic Pro X
I have no statistical data to back me up at all, BUT, I truly believe that Logic Pro X can go toe-to-toe with any DAW on the market. It runs for just $200 with a sleek, simple, and beginner friendly interface. I have found thousands of free tutorials online that walk users through EVERYTHING you can think of (I have personally watched hundreds). Also, Logic Pro X has all the loops, instruments, effects and presets you need to make a radio hit built right into the software.

Audio Interface: PreSonus Studio 2|4-USB
The Studio 24 2×2 USB-C bus-powered audio/MIDI interface can record up to 24-bit audio and is great for home/mobile recording of musicians, podcasters and live streaming. The PreSonus XMAX-L solid-state preamps and high-end converters deliver professional quality sound and a clean signal. If you don’t have a DAW, it also comes with a copy of Studio One Artist (music production software) for Mac and Windows.

Microphone: Aston Origin
I’ll say this over and over again. You do NOT need crazy expensive gear to make your music productions great! All you need is patience, practice, and a relatively average setup. I have recorded on microphones ranging from $10 – $10,000 and trust me, the amount of people that actually can tell the difference between a $200 microphone and a $3,000 microphone through their iPhone headphones or laptop speakers is slim to none. So, stop stressing the pricey gear, please.
This microphone is the BOMB! It has a very even response across the whole spectrum of the voice, slight crispness in the highs with a little warmth in the low range. The Aston Origin also has a built-in pop-shield and shock mount, so you don’t need any extra gear with it for clean recording. Need more? Even B&H Photo Video had to write about it here.

MIDI Controller: Korg nanoKEY Studio
The Korg nanoKEY Studio is a pretty cool little device. It’s A mobile MIDI keyboard that connects via USB or wirelessly to your computer or iPad. Built in, the MIDI Controller has a keyboard, knobs, trigger pads, and touch pad so wherever you are, you can instantly start producing music in the way you do best.

Headphones: KZ ZS10 Pro
I cannot believe what $50 can buy these days! A 5-Driver Hybrid Ear Monitor Set with replaceable cables!
These are some of the best headphones I have ever had, I use them for recording, listening, phone calls, noise reduction and even mixing on the go. They sound great, look great and are pretty comfortable without slipping off my ear. The driver for the low frequencies is tight and fast with little to no bleed in the Mids. The bass is a little boosted, but you can learn to adjust for that in the mix after some time. The detail is very clean, and you can hear the actual texture of the vocals and instruments.
