An Interview With Lindsay Liebro
Tells us about the song you are performing for the Nashville Pop Artist Spotlight. What is it about?
“One of the songs I will be performing is "Pretty Boy"”
What first got you into music? How did the journey begin?
“The very first song I fell in love with was Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” and I remember being like 4 years old and taping up the lyrics on my wall and jumping on my bed while singing it. Soon after, I discovered Taylor Swift and immediately found my biggest inspiration. I began writing songs when I was 7 years old, but I started getting more consistent about writing the summer before my freshman year of high school. That same summer is when I started teaching myself guitar, and I finally felt like I was getting somewhere. Soon after, I ended up winning a local radio station singer-songwriter contest, which launched me to where I am today.”
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
“catchy melodies and vivid, fun lyricism tied together with a classic popstar princess bow”
What does your music represent?
“My music represents the experiences I've gone through in my life and have been my way of coping with every emotion I've ever felt from friendship breakups, to unrequited love, to wanting to (metaphorically) kill a man. As I've been writing, each song feels more and more intrinsically myself and I hope that they be reflective of many young girls experiences as they are growing up.”
What is your creative process like?
“Most of my songs start with my feeling an emotion and me immediately grabbing my guitar and writing with the first words that flow out of my mouth. With my favorite songs I've written, it has often felt like (stay with me here) I've had little elves helping me, as if I am just the vessel for the song to be written through.”
If you were to open for any 3 artists, who would they be?
“Taylor Swift, Maisie Peters, Olivia Rodrigo”
What is the best advice you’ve been given so far in the music industry?
“Get a good lawyer.”
What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
“Singing to my bedroom walls”
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
“The connection with complete strangers.”
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives such as yourself?
“Buy merch, go to live shows, and spread the word about their favs”
