An Interview With Timothy Myles
What first got you into music? How did the journey begin?
“I first got into music by my mother suggesting I audition for Junior High Choir. I think she knew I was sneaking an iPod to bed to listen to music and lip-sync the words to various 'old-soul' tunes. (Earth Wind and Fire, James Taylor, Ray Lamontagne, etc.)”
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
“Heartland-Americana Soul-sonics, Mellencamp meet Bill Withers.”
What does your music represent?
“It represents the plight of the modern working man or woman. It's the music that pushes you during the morning workout, sits with you during the unwinding of a long day and loves you while you strive towards the light at the end of the tunnel.”
What is your creative process like?
“It is being ready to capture when God hits me with a thematic, melodic or rhythmic idea. Then finding a companion to help be the conduit of the message.”
If you were to open for any 3 artists, who would they be?
“*glances at vision board* The Lone Below, Zac Brown Band, The Lumineers”
What is the best advice you’ve been given so far in the music industry?
1."The only difference between failure and success is whether or not you stop." - Oak Fielder
2. Have EVERYTHING in writing and organized
3. We do not rise to the occasion, We fall to the level of our systems
4. "Focus not on what you can have, Focus on what you're becoming." - Jerry Seinfeld
What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
“Besides being Rooftop Timmy, I could see myself being a Family Finance Coach with a focus on setting up teenagers toward a path financial stability and education. Or I'd be in architecture”
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
“Entering a space and seeing people's hearts be lifted through the music I am creating with dear friends beside me. (Especially if it comes through in epic harmony)”
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives such as yourself?
“Invest in spaces and people for the art to occur naturally. Like the Medici Family. But in reality, is it can't. It's up to the individual to bear their soul to the world.”
